UPDATE OF THE WEATHER CONDITIONS

10:30 am on Tuesday, 8th May, 2012.

A trough system which has been affecting the Lesser Antilles for the last few days continues to affect St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The system which remains stationary across the Lesser Antilles, continues to pull moisture from within the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) northwards.

As a result, generally cloudy to overcast skies, scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms will continue to spread across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Analysis of forecast data suggest that these conditions will continue to affect the island for the next few days however, conditions will improve with the drying out of the atmosphere by late Thursday.

All concerned should take the necessary precautions.

SVG Weather Update February 3rd 2012. Evening Edition

Its been quite a while since something has been posted here and yes the site is still active, but the weather has been quiet so nothing much to talk about, just a few things though, we had over 44mm (1.7 inches) of rain here yesterday, this was the most so far in the “dry season” period , this weekend we may be in for a few more showers as an unstable air mass is drifting into our area.

An area of unsettled low level moisture  over the Guianas  that continues to drift northwards may enter our area here late Sunday into Monday and increase our chance of showers, this will also result in a more reduced wind speed in the windward islands. So expect some showers folks!

Final Posting in Relation to Hurricane Season 2011

Well  this may have not been the busiest of seasons for us, but we did get our share of excitement from time to time with systems ramping up to our east, though the season didn’t provide us with any direct hits as last year did (TOMAS) this may have prepared people’s mindset to take the hurricane season very seriously and i do hope they will continue to pay great attention to it.

Next year we may or may not be fortunate having a storm passing through our area but at least for now we can safely say that the season is over, unless of course mother nature decides to throw us a surprise storm  before christmas or for the new year.Though from the end of november into the first few days of december its been rain and more rain, with TROF systems hanging around and providing us with some very heavy showers at times. Some people have been commenting about the “weird” weather we have been having…showers from the West instead of east and sudden heavy downpours after the sun bearing down for several hours, its all part of living in the tropics..i think.

Just to let you my readers know that it has been a great pleasure serving you in 2011 and keeping you updated about the various weather happenings, but the season has come to an end and its time for me to take my vacation until June 2012, however this is not where the posts ends, if there are any significant weather systems or bulletins issued , you will find it here so dont abandon the page until next year.

I have been funding the up keep of this site and doing all the postings in my spare time..so its not been so easy but its what i love to do best…following the weather and updating you my readers about it.I will be back from time to time providing informative updates where necessary. So to all my Valued readers…MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Regards,

Colvin Harry

WEATHER OUTLOOK

TODAY:

The low level trough, now along 57-60W, will continue to affect St. Vincent and the Grenadines throughout the day, while steadily moving into the southern half of the island chain.

Cloudy to occasionally overcast skies, scattered showers and possible thunderstorms will dominate the conditions across the islands.

WEEKEND:

1. Convection associated with the surface trough located East of the Lesser Antilles, will continue to affect St. Vincent and
the Grenadines, today/early Sunday.
2.As it moves westward, increased chance of significant showers will result over the Windward Islands Sunday into Monday,
some I.T.C.Z activity is expected to trail the trough also lingering into Sunday.

2.   At the same time, a mid to upper trough over the Western Atlantic will dig to the south over the Caribbean Sea and approach the region from the west, inducing an abundance of moisture across the region.

There is a likelihood of some significant showers developing during the course of the weekend and persisting into the early/middle of next week.

Persons in flood prone areas and areas susceptible to landslides should be on the alert.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Office will continue to monitor

the weather conditions and give regular reports and updates as necessary.

Update for November 9th , SVG Weather Info

As you might have noticed by now, the updates have moved from daily to bi weekly recently, due to the fact that we are winding down the hurricane season and there is not much to discuss, however when we head into the “dry season” from December to June of next year, i will still post weekly outlooks and predictions for you on this site so you can stay informed and up to date.

Around us it has been quiet through the weekend with some rather weird dodgy weather yesterday and on monday with sudden downpours then sunshine  with roasting temperatures then rain once more , going round in circles for most of the day, today though we had mixed conditions partly sunny clouding u at times with a passing shower or two but nothing prolonged,at least not in the kingstown area, that changed late this evening just after 9PM when the lightning and thunderstorms began which continued until up until the time of this posting.

In the atlantic there is one tropical system there…yes its reminding us that the hurricane season is just not over yet though conditions are hostile we can s till have a storm, the name of this newest storm is SEAN , its more sub tropical than tropical because the circulation of showers and storms are displaced from the center, but recent satellite photos are indicating that SEAN is indeed now a tropical storm as it moves in the general direction of bermuda and it should pass about 100 miles west of the island by friday or saturday, currently they are under a troical storm warning as they continue to feel the brunt of this sluggish system thats drifting northwards at a mere 8 miles an hour.

As you might notice in the radar image above from the barbados met service some  very heavy rains and thunderstorms are hovering around our area making the island nearly invisible, we should see these conditions continue  at least for the next few hours, tomorrow should be better with only sporadic showers running a 40% chance of a shower or two, friday should see much better conditions with more rain expected on saturday and into sunday.I will continue to monitor the weather for you and update you as needed.

Friday November 4th SVG Weather Info Update

It has been rather quiet for the last few days , not much happening in terms of the weather, the past few days have been warm, but a few sporadic showers crept into the picture yesterday and today, but nothing major, just some cooling  showers from time to time. The last few days have been quite “seasonal” typical of the wrapping up of the annual Hurricane Season which ends on the 30th of this month.

There is nothing to talk to about Tropically, no storms no hurricane no depressions..only a few minor waves that’s worth the mention, one of which is moving across us tonight and into tomorrow but most of the showers are concentrated on the southern periphery of the wave which will move showers and storms across the guinas and northern Venezuela and also across Trinidad and Tobago early tomorrow and into Sunday. Some of these showers may filter into our area by tomorrow bringing some widely scattered showers.

Across our area we will see some showers tomorrow, we run a 30% chance of showers, up to 40% chance by late evening into Saturday.temperatures remain warm for the next few days and overall an excellent weekend to go picknic-ing ..Enjoy the weather while it lasts..temperatures are expected to get much cooler by early December.

Thats all for now!

Late 30th October SVG Weather Update

Its been a unpredictable past few days with a mixture of sunshine and rain, sometimes  unexpected  ownpours, but thats something that we have grown accustom to by now since we are in this tropical climate.Temperatures have been cool during early morning hours heating up quickly after sunrise with warm temperatures becoming cool by late evening once again, sea conditions remain unsettled with swells of 1.5 to 2Meters.

Conditions in the atlantic and the western caribbean remain quiet , not much to speak about except for the remnants of RINA still lingering off the coast of central america which is expected to drift inland early this week and produce some very heavy rains and possible flooding .

In our local area, unsettled conditions continue,as weak unstable conditions are bringing in some hit or miss showers which have been the order of the day for most of today, the moist flow of air from the south west and East is producing spontaneous areas of convection which then falls as rain, these showers dont last very long but can be heavy at times. We expect this trend to continue through tomorrow with a 50% chance of showers decreasing to 40% by tuesday and back down to 25% by Wednesday, another pulse of moisture may enter the picture late Wednesday elevating our rain chances once again through Thursday.Thats all for now.

Latest October 27th SVG Weather Info Update

Well it was a great  day here today, independence day in St Vincent and the Grenadines and the weather was permissive of all the activities early this morning, though we had a few showers in the wee hours of the morning conditions improved by 8AM to allow the start of the annual independence day parade at the Victoria Park and it was great weather forward with the frequent threatening cloud drifting by overhead but no rain, this allowed the military personnel to put on a spectacular show for the public which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed. The rest of the day was cool and cloudy with a sporadic shower or two but conducive or picnics and beach visits and of course the usual boatrides that head down to the grenadines.

The Atlantic has begun its shut down phase which will continue in the coming weeks and this will conclude the hurricane season for another year, as it is now the western Caribbean is still conducive to development of storms and hurricanes but the eastern Atlantic and Caribbean are way too hostile to allow any sort of tropical development.RINA is still there but has lost alot of its steam down now to a minimal hurricane or borderline tropical storm and moving slowly at 6 miles an hour, this will not impact us however.

Looking ahead for tte next days looks like its going to be a dry weekend ihe a 30% or more chance of a few showers ,all expense e for the Queen  SVG 2011 we say thank you and hoe you enjoy.

have a Great day all!
